Bub’s Burgers and Ice Cream opened its doors almost 12 years ago, and Rachel and I have been very blessed and lucky that we’ve been busy with loyal customers since the beginning. In those early days of opening, we felt so proud when customers would comment “this is the best burger I have ever had” or “the buns on this burger are the best”. Buns? How important is the bun when you are creating a great tasting burger? Of course the quality meat and our famous seasoning are important elements of a great burger but that freshly baked bun, buttered then toasted on the griddle, definitely adds that special something that sets our burger apart from the rest.
For years, we have had local bakers bake our buns for Bub’s Burgers and Ice Cream because that fresh, baked taste makes such a difference. Unfortunately, due to changes in ownership and other circumstances with local bakeries, it became difficult to achieve the consistency and quality we desired. So, we decided to open our own bakery! Lucy’s Bakery (a tribute to our middle child who just happens to have a name that sounds great for bakery) has opened on 1323 W. 86th Street in Indianapolis on the southeast corner of 86th & Ditch. The main purpose of Lucy’s Bakery is to bake the buns and breads for Bub’s Burgers and Ice Cream and Bub’s Café. Our head baker is the original baker who made our buns 12 years ago, and we feel we have finally reclaimed the buns we’ve been striving for the past few years! We also plan to add a few wholesale accounts and we also have retail breads for sale at the Lucy’s Bakery and at Bub’s Café. The bakery is certified Kosher and we use only fresh, wholesome ingredients. We hope that you enjoy the new Lucy’s Bakery buns at Bub’s Burgers and Ice Cream and please stop by the bakery for a variety of fresh baked breads and rolls or take home a loaf from Bub’s Café!
