Bub’s Burgers and Ice Cream was established in Carmel, Indiana May, 2003. Matt and Rachel Frey, owners of the restaurant, had been thinking of a concept for a family restaurant with an emphasis on quality food and a fun atmosphere for several years. When they found the location along the Monon Trail, they knew it was meant to be! With a lot of family guidance and moral support, Bub’s was born!
"Bub” is a family nickname for Matt and his brother-in-law and it fit perfect with the Big Ugly Burger concept. What was a family nickname has now caught on with employees and regular customers and now “Bub” can usually be found pattying burgers in the kitchen or visiting tables most days of the week!
As the name states, burgers are our specialty. Our burgers are made from fresh, handpattied ground beef. Our buns are custom made to fit our burgers and baked fresh at a local bakery. We can’t emphasize quality enough. We believe this is what sets Bub’s apart from most family eateries. We serve a simple menu but we make sure that all ingredients and products are the best tasting and best quality we can find.
While we consider ourselves a burger place, another menu item that has attracted quite a following is our grilled Mahi Mahi filet. Also, our ice cream shop, located in the front of the building, is a popular stop on the Monon and the source for the ice cream in our tasty hand-dipped shakes. Indianapolis artist Mike Brown painted the colorful farm-scene murals found throughout.
While spring and summer are our most popular months due to the large patio for outdoor seating, Bub’s is open year round. What could be better in the winter than a warm bowl of Bub’s chili?
